On the old SC forums, people used to semi-frequently talk about the old days in Clash. They’d say things like:
“I remember when TH8 was the max”, or talk about a troop taking 45 minutes to train, when walls cost ‘ x”, and so on.
I saw someone discussing max barn size here recently, and wondered—
Have some of our long-time players seen big changes (or small changes that add up) to HayDay over the years? Does anything stand out? Good, bad, or otherwise? Confusing? Funny? Things that are missed, or that you’re thankful have been added?
I’d love to hear some stories. 😊

I'd have to give this some thought, but offhand, some new(er) players are usually shocked to learn that SIX boats were required to complete a boat task instead of four. This was long before the themed derbies were announced. (I used to always do boat tasks back in the day, so I was thrilled when the number of boats required was decreased!)

Back in the day there were no derbies😊, no town either and no fishing area. Farming takes a lot more time now than when I started 8 and a half years ago. It was exciting when neighbourhoods were introduced. There are many more changes but I need time to reflect…

I recall when Greg's farm was level 30.
The soup maker used to look very different - quite traditional. Many players were outraged when it was modernised!
When the personal train was first introduced it could pick up from one neighbour only, which meant you could fill it to capacity only if a neighbour had released enough townies.
The Derby used to start again immediately after the last one finished, without the one-day break that we now have. Iirc that was changed pretty quickly.

I miss the most BRILLIANT oversight/bug of all time.
You used to be able to buy a coin based deco item whilst in your town or farm as if you'd never bought one before...
...so long as the rest of that deco you had already bought where in the opposite place
_______________________________
So if you had bought 71 pine trees the next would normally cost you 77 thousand coins
BUT
If you had unloaded all of those into your farm then went to your town to buy the 72nd tree it would only cost you the base price of 6 thousand
......if only I had had the money or levels back then to take better advantage 😆 hell of a savings 🪙🪙

Who doesn’t remember the time when there were no permits, no puzzle pieces, no blueprints and opening up land wasn’t that hard. Nowadays it takes a lot of time (yes, I know the reason), same with the traintracks (the what) and the chickvouchers.

Remember when there wasn’t a Town UI and if you needed to release only Salesmen, for example, you had to hope he wasn’t hiding behind a bunch of other townies at that building because you needed those townies for a different task?

I miss the days where new decos were added in our deco shop to buy for coins or diamonds. Now we either need to 'earn' them or buy them for real life money or diamonds. Remember back in the days when Christmas or Easter were close and you checked the deco shop daily to see, if something new had been added? I really miss that part.

But I do understand that SC is a company that needs to make money. And I believe Hayday is still a game that you can enjoy without spending any real money, like you have to do on a pay to win formula. The downside of not spending real money is that you will miss out on things like you mentioned.

I remember the good old days when they hadn't fixed the treasure chest bug...so we could tap a chest...leave that farm...go back tap the chest again, leave the farm, go back tap the chest again...then after a few times it would open! That was when there was only one kind of chest and it seemed like we got diamonds more often!

Oh my i remember all those times mentioned by the previous posters. I remember a game with no fishing area, no town, no land expansions whatsoever and the jewelry being the last machine to unlock. Yup Ive been playing a while I remember a time where we couldn’t ask for help on a boat at all and I remember a time where we could open the entire boat and ask for help on every crate. The game has seen so many changes in the years it’s a long long list

Oh yes, the "good old days". But were they REALLY? We have so much more now in the game. Oh sure, we're often asked to spend real money to purchase deco or diamonds but they're not required. Yes, we all wish for a tool shed so expansion didn't eat up our already scarce barn space, most everyone wishes the 80 limit was lifted, we all wish puzzle pieces came more easily and we've all got our gripes and pet peeves, but I think if we were honest we'd agree that the game now is so much better than it was 8 plus years ago (when I started playing).

Back in the day a friend told me about Hay Day. After a while he stopped playing because "there's nothing left to do" at level 36 or 43 or whatever, can't remember. Haha.

For me this thread is more a trip down memory lane but I certainly wouldn’t call them the good old days, I don’t really need to be honest like I’m admitting something that’s hard to admit. In many many ways the game is better then ever before and I have no problems saying that because I believe it to be the truth. And yes I still have my gripes. And I’m beginning to think the balance is getting a bit lost here and there but hey that’s just my opinion and a different topic and yes I do wish puzzles and permits would come faster. That being said, I’m certainly not one of those “we” who all want a tool shed. I absolutely believe the way most people envision this tool shed would be horrible for the game and I can honestly say I hate that idea with a vengeance. As for the 80 limit that’s another of those things. I understand players with certain styles absolutely hate the limit. Personally I’m fine with it even though I run into it myself every now and then. Luckily that’s not frequent and to be frank since its introduction I’ve been much more successful at buying expansion items in my friends RSS and in the paper. Right before its introduction I couldn't fine any much needed expansion item anywhere.

My perspective on the game is very different to yours, misspoufy, but all points of view are valid. I agree with Kat; I am happy to work within the 80 limit, and do not wish for it to be raised. For me, it simply adds another challenge to the game. It meant I stopped snapping up any expansion materials that I saw in the DD, and I now buy only the ones I need. That leaves more available for others. When I do hit the limit on a day - which I do occasionally - I congratulate myself on finding so many EMs. I've long been an advocate of not introducing a tool shed. If Supercell did that it would, no doubt, require some sort of expansion material of its own, adding even more strain to storage. Higher-level players would be unlikely to be able to move all of the tools they have amassed in their barn into the shed, as its capacity would be very low at the beginning. Anyway, I really don't want to derail this thread, which I'm sure was meant as a happy nostalgia one. Does anyone else remember when Alfred used to walk everywhere? I'm sure he was relieved when he was provided with his scooter for delivering the thank you cards!

Haha I do remember Alfred being given a scooter! It was a super cute and also functional change. But now I think about it he still delivers parcels on foot.
Now that I’m thinking about it they should really give Tom one of those children’s scooters (although they’re used by adults nowadays too) not the motorized ones but the ones where you stand on a board and push off the sidewalk or road with one leg

Speaking of Tom, I remember when he took six and a half weeks to run to get your goods, and then he’d sometimes bring back a maximum of 7 - then I’d have to make him rest for 15 minutes and send him again and hope he’d bring back the 9 goods that made it worthwhile. Ah Tom.
His code was changed so he always brought 9 and his run was sped up on at least two occasions before we got the full out sprint he now does. I’d feel sorry for him except he also gets those two hour naps in between! He basically works 8 minutes a day and gets full benefits! 😆 That’s the life.

I think for me one of the best additions to the game was the town board on farm side. I don't have to go back and forth trying to remember what to pick up to feed my greedy townies. There are others things that make the game much more enjoyable. The thing I miss is the red tool box, having to close it out. I still tap the screen to close.

Dear farmer, I was wondering what to add to your thoughts about the "old" times, but I think I play not long enough to contribute something special. Besides, you wrote that much yet and I won't repeat something. To be honest I can't remember how the gameplay was when I started. Perhaps I have a bad memory, too.

Big one: I remember when solo players could take a break from the derby without dropping a league. Then they changed it without saying a word and demoted us. 🤨 Oh I was very unhappy about the lack of notice and more unhappy about the pressure to play the derby every week. Since then I’ve dropped the derby altogether/or play it very casually and my farm is delightful again.😊

I remember when we could find puzzle pieces in treasure chests. I would pay to open hoping to find. Haven't paid since. Bad move SC.

I've had 2 seperate puzzle pieces from chests in sea in last week The 2nd was a surprise, wasn't expecting another so soon after the 1st! Usually it's once in a blue moon for puzzle pieces to turn up that way

When I just started playing Hayday I thought that the numbers for mastering a machine were counted as a total to reach the 2nd and after that the third star. Nowadays with the new machines the count starts from zero when you have a star. Those hours needed to get three stars (above 1600) are abnormal.

Remember when Nick would sort of keep the line of communication open between the posters in the now old defunct forum and Team HD? And offer advice outside the official support channels? Or just pop in once in a while? I miss that.
Does he still work for SC now, or has he moved on?

Whilst he still has involvement with Hay Day, his main focus is his new role of Community Manager for Everdale. That game is in beta at the moment, and is available in some countries but not worldwide yet. For those who are missing Nick, here he is, talking about Everdale: youtu.be/xdUQSyu-NqY

I'm sure he was relieved when he was provided with his scooter for delivering the thank you cards! Perhaps I did not express myself well but I am perfectly happy with the way the game is. Yes, a tool shed would be "nice" if wishes were horses and all beggars rode, but it's not on my wish list as I'm not a tool hoarder, never have been.. I choose to upgrade barn or silo or land one at a time. Our neighborhood works together upgrading each other's barns, silos, towns, and land. We take turns and we share. When it's your turn to upgrade you hit that 80 item limit each day until you get upgraded, especially those of us in higher levels. What I was trying to express, and evidently not well, is that there are always those who want the game to be what they want it to be instead of learning to play within the boundaries and accept the challenges the game provides. Personally, I like the challenges of getting the puzzle pieces, keeping my crops and stock going at a level that fits within the current boundaries of my barn and silo. I don't find it necessary to "finish" the game by any means necessary as others do. I'm a pretty laid back player and play for enjoyment alone....to relax. Even my non-game playing husband enjoys the animal antics on my farm and in the sanctuary. When I said were the good old days really good I saw in another poster's comment what I meant....that you reached level 40ish and wondered if that was all there was to the game. As far as I'm concerned this is a far better place in the game than it was 8 years ago.

Back in the day when I first started playing, the Town was a new feature and our Personal Trains may make one trip to pick up visitors and must return to our Towns. A few years later, the Personal Train may make multiple trips and pick up a maximum of 10 visitors before returning to Town. It's a very cool QOL improvement.
