I've been playing HD since 2014 because it's fun for me to help other players to progress in the game. I realize that the game supports many play styles, but i was shocked to read the following post from another HD channel. Wow, SMH.

Personally I think it would be kind of boring to always only be thinking about yourself and your own needs. If everyone played like this nobody would ever get help in HD unless we are taking about the annual plant watering event where we get rewarded for watering. It is natural to be selfish but it is also natural to be kind and helpful. I guess this person takes some kind of pleasure in using others without being useful him-/herself. Hmm... Really sad actually. Thankfully it is my experience that most are trying to be kind and helpful. Luckily SC is also endorsing this behavior by i.e. help tasks in the derby.

I think I would have to block that person. I have no inclination to associate with non-humans portraying themselves as human.

That’s the difference between JHD - a real forum, and some to the other ways players communicate, i.e. Reddit, Discord, etc.
Here, we actually give you content, help, sometimes together we come up with solutions.

His play style of asking for help and refusing to help is so off-putting to me that I'm not even tempted to create a new baby farm just to run the experiment. The thought of always taking and not giving back even in an ephemeral, mobile game makes me shake my head vigorously.
BTW, the player shared his play style in a channel with about 36,300 subscribers. Though two players replied to his post, many readers in the community gave feedback by downvoting his post so we're sending him a clear message about his play style.

I think when you are playing for a while with the same people to get a feeling for those who are greedy. I’ve been playing since the start of hay day and I’ve seen my share of greedy. Ive chosen not to help people who greedily ask for the same stuff over and over and never help. We have a rule that help is expected but in the last couple of years we have never had to enforce it. We have in the past also booted people for this offense.
I think it takes a while to develop a really good relationship with fellow hoodies.

I agree. Had to boot someone this morning for that. Always asking for things to make trades and support his other 2 farms. It got old fast lol. And he never even said thank you.

I've booted people from my hood several times, and never been reported. At least, not that I know of. Though one person got quite irate, and left rude messages trying to get back in. Also tried to get added by various members who were on her last helper tab.
My neighborhood is very small, at least when it comes to active members. (There are a lot of members who no longer play Hay Day, at least not often.) And we've found it difficult to get new members. We're all pretty high level now, and lower level players really struggle. Of course they want to participate in the Derby, but the tasks are so far above their level it's really not fun for them or us.
And I've found that admitting high level players just never ends well. There's usually a reason why someone who's level 80+ doesn't have a hood. It's because they don't play well with others. Sometimes they'll stay for one week, getting all kinds of help from us, then just leave without saying a word. On to the next hood. Sometimes I end up booting them because all they do is ask for expansion items, never offering help (and often being quite rude about it).
The player quoted in the first post sounds like quite a piece of work. I wouldn't mind the constant asking, but never helping anyone else out, and being proud of that...why on earth would you want something like that in your hood?

I have seen a lot of those types of hoodies pass through when I was with a hood But I generally found I have the opposite issue 😅 I'm 134 currently and haven't been in a hood since lv 80 or 90 something Because the stress of rude leaders or worse the ones that don't want to be out right rude so instead are passive aggressive To watch those exchanges between leaders and other members was cringeworthy and made me less and less likely to even try to have any input Solo is stress free! For me at least 😅

janilee & BauldersGate I agree with both of you. But it depends, there are mostly 2 sides of a medal. Of course it's annoying always being affected with players who are so called "sponger". It's not very amusing to have to change everytime the nh when those gamers reveal their real behaviour. It's stressing and furthermore laborious to hold the "pace" in the nh, especially in derby. To be a solo player has insofar some advantages. You are independent, can do what you want and when you want. Nobody bothers you. But it's also pretty tough if you have tasks for the town and only 1 farm. This can become or better said IS challenging. So it might be a good idea playing alone and being aware of the inherent disadvantages. But if a nh works pretty well it's fun. Luckily my sister-in-law and myself have a great nh. We both have a babyfarm, too. And we are one the same wave-length. That fact makes it easy for us to interact. The player in the first posting to whom lynnk2021 was referring is a deterrent example how you not should understand and play the game. Such thinking is insane in my opinion, hopefully a single case in that sick characteristic. Having said this I hope we'll be untroubled from such a sort of players. 👍

Some hoods can quite toxic. I used to lurk in the forum for finding a NH in the old forum, and there was one that was kind of a mirror image of the kind of player who joins a different hood every week just to get what they can. It was a hood where they welcomed new players, took what they could from them, then booted them out claiming they were "unfriendly."
They had a trading rule for their hood that insisted every trade be 1 for 1. No ratios allowed. One brick for one plank, say. You couldn't offer or ask for two bricks. At the time, it was common in the trading thread to offer 3 to 5 LEMs for a BEM, but in that hood, it was strictly 1 to 1. They had a lot of very inexperienced players joining. Once they had no more expansion items to give, they'd get kicked out.
My hood is pretty laid back. We do ask that if you join the derby, you try to do all tasks for max points, but if for some reason you can't, it's no big deal. We have occasionally dropped out of the Champion's League, but we've always gotten back in the next week. We usually don't place in the top three, and we're fine with that.

I guess I've been very lucky. Only one hood had a rude leader. I left after a month and made my own. My hood has 17 members, levels 60 to 191. We are derby focused. We communicate well and joke around a lot with each other. We are all big on helping each other. I have only had to kick one player. I love our hood.
