As many may already know, ProBoards provides free hosting services for forums like this one in exchange for displaying top and bottom banner ads. After seeing the ad for Charmin toilet paper recently, I went to my local Costco to buy a pack of 30 rolls. When I got to the TP aisle, i was delighted there was a special 3 day sale for Charmin at $5 off. I intended to support ProBoards by buying Charmin and saved $5 during my regular trip to Costco. Um, maybe Costco should advertise on ProBoards.
Here are two other interesting ads I've seen also.
1. Gerber Dual Flush Toilet. Press Button One for liquid waste and Button Two for solid waste. I'm using a low flow toilet to conserve water. If I buy a new toilet, I might switch to a bidet which sprays warm water. Enjoy the go. Oops, that's the catchphrase for Charmin.
2. Snoop Cali Rosé: I knew Snoop Dog is a rap artist but didn't know he's a winemaker. Cheers even though I don't drink alcohol. Well, hardly ever. ;-)

I’m getting a lot of ads about tech. Not sure if the ads are targeted, but I haven’t seen the bathroom ones yet. Make of that what you will. :-)
PS I like Wayne Gretzky's wines. Haven’t tried snoop's.

Just saw a banner ad for York Thins and I don't have any emergency chocolate at home except for Swiss Miss hot chocolate. The climate here isn't cold enough to drink hot chocolate tonight, sadly.

It's indeed a brave new world. ;-) Most Universities advertise over here lynnk2021. It’s such a big competitive business, they want to attract as many as possible and KCL is one of the harder ones to get in to so a lot get turned down. I know a lot of uni’s are worried the pandemic might affect the number of applicants but last year was a record number I think |

I just recieved a banner for a Logitech keyboard. Funny, because earlier today I bought a cover and keyboard for my Samsung Galaxy Tab S7 +. But I ordered it not via my tablet but my laptop. Coincidence? I think yes. Because in the past I got offers about Dell computer. Seems that my device knows I'm affine for those things.  |

Yes, very "nice". But although I set the word nice in quotation marks, I'm not bothered. I got used to it a long time ago. But when this special ad occurs today, I was still a little bit surprised. The Dell computer isn't in the moment an option for me because I'm happy with my laptop from a competitor. |

Since yesterday I’ve been getting a frequent banner ad from Best Buy. It takes up so much of the screen that I’m having trouble posting. I went into my settings and removed any cookies from Best Buy that are stored in my browser, but I’m still getting the ads. Below is a screenshot. Does anyone know if/how I can get rid of this? It’s making this forum very difficult for me to use.  |

Yes, this started for me last night as well. I cleared my memory and restarted the tablet a couple times, which worked temporarily. I'll see if there is any info from ProBoards on this issue.

I see two issues with the recent posts. First of all, if ads are so obtrusive that they make JHD unusable, then it's an issue which ProBoards must address, IMO. I use Chrome with my PC because it loads faster than Edge or Firefox. The major drawback is I don't see banner ads when reading JHD and I haven't installed ad blockers because I want ads to display on my monitor so I may support ProBoards which brings us to the second issue. I'd like to remind everyone ProBoards is "a free, remotely hosted message board service that facilitates online discussions by allowing people to create their own online communities... Although a number of subscription style features are optionally available, there is no obligation for any user to purchase anything from ProBoards. Forums are hosted for free, with no bandwidth or webspace cap, provided users allow advertisements to be displayed on their forum" per en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ProBoards. I just opened Edge and Firefox and only Edge is displaying a banner ad for Bitdefender: A Global Leader in Cybersecurity protecting millions of consumer and business environments since 2001, www.bitdefender.com/EDIT: The next banner is for Peacock which is streaming service. It's offering every World Cup 2022 game in Spanish. GOOOOALLLLLLLLL, GOOOOAAAAALLLLLL, GOOOOAAAAALLLLLL! Sorry. ;-) |

For what it’s worth, I don’t object to all ads, just ones that take up a huge part of the screen (in this case, almost half the screen).

Last time (with that same ad), it finally disappeared. I took a screenshot tonight of it covering up most of the forum content, which I'll likely post on the PB's Support site. Also on the thread I linked to above, PB's staff mentioned it only happens on a mobile device and not on a PC, though I saw it on my computer this morning as well. I'm sorry for the inconvenience. It's quite the pain! In the meantime, refreshing the page, or navigating elsewhere on the forum temporarily gets rid of it. |

Specifically: Date and Time when it happened (with timezone): The user’s platform (device, browser, ISP network): The user’s location: The URL where it happened (the page the user was on before the redirect or the issue): The URL the user was redirected to (if this was a redirect): The user’s IP address: DO NOT POST THIS INFORMATION ON THIS THREAD OR PUBLICLY! If you are experiencing this issue and are able to gather the above information, send me a private message (PM) and we'll go from there. Sorry for this inconvenience. Hopefully it will be resolved soon. |

I've decided to switch to Edge from Chrome because it loads faster. One of the benefits I noticed right away is seeing banner ads which I happy to do so to support ProBoards
The one I'm seeing now is Peacock which streams programs aired by the National Broadcasting Company. I might subscribe it to watch previous seaons of "The Blacklist".

Additional to lynnk2021 posting I switched as well some time ago. My new browser is "Vivaldi". At the beginning it took some time to get used to it, but meanwhile I won't change. One of the best things is the inherent ad-blocker. No annoying ads anymore. 🙂 |
