One of the ways Supercell celebrated its tenth anniversary in 2021 is to release for publication a book entitled "The Art of Supercell" which featured game art and commentary from the developers. Of course Hay Day is in the first chapter because it is Supercell's first hit mobile game which started the streak of hit games released globally from 2012-2018.
Reading the book recently, I'd like to share some fascinating excerpts.
Fascinating. I bold the above phrase for emphasis. Throughout the nearly ten years of playing HD casually, I've read posts from players in various social media channels including the now defunct Supercell forums, and they made the observation that "Nothing bad ever happens in Hay Day".
For the first time ever, it's finally mentioned in print by the official Supercell book!

November 2011. The company, which started out creating desktop games, soon made the decision to pivot to mobile, and a small group of Supercellians began brainstorming what game to start developing. They wanted to create a game that the most people possible could fall in love with, something not yet seen on a mobile platform. The farm genre raised its cute head. "We want to make games that we respect and love ourselves. Many of us had personal experience with nature, like gardening and farming...The core loops are already there and the world is relatable."
