I’m watching several ads to speed up production on some of the Halloween event tasks but some ads don’t seem to get stuck without any exit option once I’ve watched them. Only way out seems to be to force quit the game and the watched ads don’t register. Any tips on how to deal with this?

I’m not sure if it’s the same thing, but I see ads for games, usually. They make you wait 15 seconds or whatever it is, then you can choose to get the game and it takes you to the App Store. If not, it takes several more seconds for the “x” to appear to actually close the ad (and that’s after it says I got the reward). Sometimes it’s in the upper right, and I’ve seen it on the lower left. I think they actually, purposely make it difficult to exit the ad.
Some ads are tricky, I noticed that, too. If the ad has a progress bar you have at first to wait until it's finished. This can last to 30 seconds. After that you have to wait some more haunting slowly seconds. If you are lucky there will appear a circle in the right upper corner, counting down from 5 to 0.
Not till then you are able to get the speed reward for shortening the production time.

I noticed that there are two or more companies, who show us the different ads.
And as you and donkeyfan already mentioned, it can be tricky. Sometimes I have seen it in the upper left. You all know the play button for starting a video (e.g. on youtube). The button here looks similiar. If you touch it, then it takes some seconds and then in the right corner the x appears.
I also realized, that sometimes you have to touch on your display and then the button appears.
Until now there haven't been an ad that I couldn't close. There is always a way. You only have to find the button.

You watch the add and a timer appears in the top right for 30 seconds
So you watch that timer rather than the add waiting the appearance of an x
But the count down ends and now you're on a new screen (often one prompting you to touch something on screen)
A symbol appears in the top right.....is that the exit 🤔
....nope takes you to play store
You press back and are back to the add screen except now there's a button in top left saying 'done'
Soon they'll be more like mini escape rooms.....to get back to the game you where originally playing they'll be multi step puzzles to solve and a blood sacrifice to make 🙄
(I've not done an escape room but thats the jist of them right? 🤣)

Some ads are really enervating. Sometimes I think what the developers want to achieve...on the first thought they are supposed to create ads to entertain people, get them interested for their product. But the way the ads are developed they achieve exactly the opposite. Not understandable. But being forced to watch those ads for a special goal has to be worthwhile somehow. Klicks are for money.
Usually I don't disparage sponsors who advertise on Hay Day.
But IMO, Tik Tok is the worse offender for hiding the X button to exit the ad after viewing. In fact, the X button is called the Done button on the left screen. It took me many tries to figure out the puzzle of viewing its ad and getting the time reduction.
Shame on you Tik Tok! In the name of the game gods, I will never download your app which has privacy issues.
