Hi everyone. 😊. Hoping someone has a solution to my problem.
I’ve been making some huge changes on my farm in the past couple of weeks. (I can’t claim creative credit as my creativity is very limited so I Google and try to copy what I like. Lol). My Virgo personality likes everything neat, tidy and in its place. However I now have a herd of horses wandering near and far - they’ve turned into wild mustangs! 😊 I’ve tried various fences, a water “moat” and now the stone wall, but nothing keeps them in their area - they walk right through it.
I use to have the animals across the street and a few dogs and cats would wander about, but nothing like what’s happening now.
Any tips or tricks?

The direction the stables face dictate to some extent how far in a given direction they'll wander. I recently swapped my bird and horse fields around I placed savanna grass alongside and in-between the stables; When the horses slept those first few days after the switch they did it stood in the savanna grass I'd placed That meant when they woke they clipped through everything, the grass, the bushes surrounding the field, etc because they where already clipped by having slept inside the savanna grass deco But they can be 'grounded' and made to observe boundaries Simply tap on each after waking and it snaps them into observing boundaries after a few days of 'grounding' them by tapping each they actually started sleeping in front of the stables (as seen in the screenshot) rather than inside the savanna grass So they no longer needed prompting to observe the boundaries

I’ve done some work in edit mode and other things not. So you’re likely to see things in crazy places for awhile. 😁

The kittens and bunnies here are stuck, but not the cats and dogs. Maybe you can find something in this layout. One of these days, I will try to trap the dogs and cats as well. Edit: well, whatdayaknow 🤣 I just moved a couple of bushes and they are all confined now

I keep ALL my animals "trapped" on the other side of the road, that's their area. The trick is to not give them too much space....just enough for their houses and them, and surround them with hedges and fences and they'll stay in. The horses and donkeys won't pass trees so I keep that whole area surrounded with trees. Here's an example of what I'm talking about.

I place my animal pens around the area for the horses. They stay in their yard as long as the pens touch.

I also have been successful, after a lot of attempts, to keep my animals all staying in their pens. It does take a few tricks like misspoufy mentions above. Just keep trying eventually you'll find the right set up that will work!

Going to try again. The big dogs are the hardest to keep by their houses. Good ideas, thanks!

Going to try again. The big dogs are the hardest to keep by their houses. Good ideas, thanks! Hi sapphire ! Welcome to JHD! 🙂 Additional to your posting..yes, the great dogs are difficult to "restrain" at their houses. Usually they are wandering through the whole farm. Same applies for the great cats. I have no idea how to get them constantly near their houses. Whether you're using bushes or fences, dogs and cats don't care. The do what they want and go where they want. Due to this behaviour I gave up a long time ago to keep them near their houses. However, I understand that every farmer prefers another approach. The only thing I can recommend would be to try several things, observe and to be patient. If the desired outcome won't gonna happen after many shots I would accept it. Perhaps it's not intended from the game to keep dogs and cats nearby. But of course I would give it a try. Perhaps you're lucky. 👍

sapphire You are welcome. 🙂 To the dogs and cats... Look at the bright side if you can't restrain them... They are free animals and can use the complete space of the farm. And free animals are happy animals. 😉

Hi guys. This is my experience.
On one Baby farm: The raspberry and blackberry bushes keep the dogs and cats confined. You have to plant them at least two deep though. They stay put.
On another, I have the animal pens (pigs and cows) on one side of the houses. Then I planted honey bushes blocking all the escape areas. They stay put.
Confession: On my main farm they run free. The strategies to keep them confined would mess with my designs so sacrifice I must. 🤷♀️🙂
I’ll try to add pictures in a while.
EDIT: Apologies. Good intentions notwithstanding, having forgotten that the website I used to use is defunct, I’ve found that I really don’t want to deal with the picture posting process at the moment. 🫣 So sorry. It’s likely that exactly no-one was waiting with bated breath, but I didn’t want to just not do it without explanation when I said I would. Cheers.

Haha! Like that your design comes first. Now that I mixed mine all up, I like the new look so...I continued unblocking ALL pets. Putting in cute decor, flowers etc. I am much more relaxed now that the pet trap is not my goal. ...my grandson plays on a little farm, and blocks a couple pets with the animal pens. I tried trees and the savanna grass... The fruit bushes sound like a plan. Not for now, but maybe later

I understand that some farmers don't want the animals wander around deco but in my opinion liberty (for animals) comes first. On my farm are no restraints for my animals. I love it watching them enjoying their liberty to go where they want. They also don't interfere with deco or other places which are supposed to stay "animal-free", so to speak. Their behaviour is exemplary. Luckily HayDay provides us with the possibility to proceed and to play how it suits most. 🙂🐨🐓🌷

Thing is, donkeyfan, I don’t mind them roaming except the range of the cats and dogs is huge. And come feeding time, they somehow always manage to be down near Florida, USA when their houses are up near Quebec, Canada. So there’s the looooong, sloooooow run across the continent to eat. Then the eating. Then the looooong, sloooow run back to Florida only to double back three-quarters of the way there, and take the loooong, sloooow run back to the houses to sleep. All the while I’m there tapping my foot waiting for the chance to wake them up.😤 So penned they shall stay. On the baby farms.😉

BostonGirl True words. ❤️ I also don't like this behaviour. The dogs and cats try to strain our patience a littlebit too much. It's somewhat annoying. 😕 I wish we had the option to determine a circle how far the animals should go. That would be nice. 😉
