As many of you know, the Supercell Forum had a wealth of information from knowledgeable players. We have captured and transferred many of the guides and other useful information from that forum to JHD.
One particular thread that was very useful to both new and seasoned players alike was the "Things You Didn't Know You Didn't Know" thread. Due to the evolution of the game over the years, we have decided to start a brand new thread on this topic.
If you've made a discovery about any part of the game that you feel may be helpful (and especially unknown) to other players, please post it here!
Just a few examples:
Did you know that you can get a reward if you pop Tom's balloon after he lets it go?
You don't need to fill every truck order. Just trash those hard to fill orders and wait 30 minutes until the next order arrives (or speed up with diamonds if you choose)
Want to go back to your friend's farm from their town? Simply tap on the hand cart on the tracks (you can use this method to go from your town back to your farm as well).
What things didn't you know you didn't know?

Thanks for bringing this thread back. This is very useful for many reasons. I have one example to share now. And will probably have more at a later date.
Did you know that after completing a farm pass task, you can speed the chick walking to the end of the current tasks points? Simply back out of screen by touching the " X" on the upper right. Immediately go back in the path, and viola! She's at the end of the path. Works well when completing the weekly tasks.
Note: end of current task path is not necessarily the whole road. Just the amount of points you've earned. So if you've earned 75 points, she moves 75 points ahead! Better than waiting for her to walk past everything.

When I started (and for a long time, actually, until someone explained it to me)…. I didn’t know how to check on townies in buildings from the town hall. I’d keep tapping on the building to see if they were finished or how many spaces I had left, and accidentally letting them go. Had no idea how to “stack” them, either.

If you're solo Derby
And it's a blossom Derby
Normal 320 tasks can become rarer but
The NEXT task to appear is ALWAYS a 320 blossom task when there is NOT a blossom task currently on the board
So if you stagger the trashing of Derby tasks by a few seconds each
Then BE THERE when its time for them to respawn
You have a few seconds to decide whether to keep or to trash the first task that appears
Which WILL be a 320 blossom task
If you choose to trash then the NEXT task will ALSO be a 320 blossom task
And so on and so forth till an easy one pops up
-It can take a few goes round so do it when you have the time to come back within next half hour!
-Trash in a pattern to make it easier on yourself when they reappear!
for instance, top to bottom and left to right

I leave 10 seconds between trashing tasks and I try to do them in reading order.

If there is a global event on
And you have passed the global requirement threshold
You can farm hop to a near unlimited amount of new farms.
And potentially find useful items sans the need to compete with the usual newspaper induced rush ______________________________
CLICK the EVENT BILLBOARD on your farm
CLICK the BLUE GLOBE tab to the left hand side
(That shows you the global progress and brings up the 'top neighbourhoods' info as default)
CLICK on the SWITCH INFO button, AKA the CIRCLING ARROWS button, to bottom right
(that changes what you see from 'top neighbourhoods' to 'recent contributors')
The odd numberd farms in that list are most likely people you are already in game friends with
So positions 1, 3, 5, etc
The even numberd farms in that list are new to you and potentially interesting
So positions 2, 4, 6, etc
Those even numbered farms in the list are ever changing.
You have time to visit position 2 and maybe position 4 before they change to yet more new farms.
You can find shop items, helps, interesting farm designs and all without the competition of the newspaper.
But only during a global event and only if you yourself have passed the global threshold!
NB: you also have to return to your farm to re-click your own billboard to go again!

Did you know that you can get a reward if you pop Tom's balloon after he let's it go? Speaking of Tom’s balloon and his prize... did you know that you can tell when he’s about to let go of that balloon by watching the piece of string below his hand ? That piece of string slowly gets shorter to showing no extra string as he gets closer to releasing it.

Dear farmer, I don't know whether you know that but for me this was new information: If you are in the fishing area you can access the farmpass without switching back to the farm. Tap on the biddy with the green fishing hat underneath the fishing book. In town the same procedure, tapping on the biddy beneath the train station suffices. 🐣🐤🐥

I sometimes click accidentally on the boat leading to the fish pond when visiting other farms. To go back to their farm click on the little boat behind the lobster pot.

Maggie the Builder and her Collection Book: I didn't know for the longest time, but it is easy to get your favorite design back via the Collection Book. Anything in your Collection Book Maggie will build again for you at any time.

It hurts to accidentally purchase an expensive decoration while scrolling through the list. I learned to scroll through the decorations list using my left finger, this does help preventing the accidental placement of an item.

To place an item in the queue of a production building: 1. tap the production building 2. drag the item to the first slot of the queue. For over five years I have been doing it this way. After reading this post from Frog On I realized I can also drag the item onto the production building. As far as I know, how to add an item to the queue of a production building is not explained in the ingame help or in the Hay Day wiki.

In response to Donkeyfan: Oh. A baby chicken is a chick, and there are various names for young birds of different kinds. Now I think maybe you meant “birdie” (which is what young children tend to call young birds). Idk when it started but long before my time, even, when people were posing for a picture, they used to tell kids to “watch the birdie” to get them to look at the camera, lol. 💕🐥 Thanks for reminding me about this link to the farm pass, btw.

Like many have said biddy being a young chick....
But, in southern speak ( lolol) it is also an annoying old woman.... such as "That old biddy, Kathy, was griping about not getting her Halloween deco... again! Geeeesh,..."

THX for your explanation. It's very funny how one word can be interpreted. And your comparison is hilarious, too. Like many have said biddy being a young chick.... If you rapidly click on a birdbath or house (or indeed a bat house) several critters will fly in to say hello At Halloween time that means bats in your birdbath....😅

First of all, thank you Tahoe for starting this thread.
Town enthusiasts have learned the following early on in the game. But for those who don't play the Town regularly, did you know you may open 2 free sea chests daily, one by the shore in your Town and one in another Town when you use your Personal Train? Unlike Mystery Chests which may appear anywhere on your farm, sea chests are very easy to find.

Hi 🌼GymGirl🌺, it doesn't surprise me that in Australia the meaning is just as in UK and Southern region of US. For me it is a funny thing. How one word can have so opposite meanings. But I won't forget this in the future. That's another beautiful aspect to take part in this forum. I'm upgrading my vocab.

I’ve heard “old biddy” for an older woman, too. But it didn’t make sense in the original context. Unless maybe someone finds Rose or Maggie really annoying for some reason, lol.

I just ordered a catalog gift, and I accidentally clicked something and a window came up showing each possible gift and the probablity of same. After trying to figure out how that happened I saw there is a pair of dice in the upper left hand corner of the gift voucher window … clicking on the dice shows the the chances of each gift depending on which package you order (10, 20, 30 or 35). After 8 years of playing this is the first time I ever realized that. Bowl me over!

That’s the reason why I asked VJ where she got the waterput deco from. If you click on the dices you can see if the new deco (or decos that you want) or actually in there with their % possibility. If they are not show you won’t get them. I don’t have the waterput offered. So I keep my vouchers and wait until there is a new offer.

Greatly thanks for this thread.
1. If you don't see any townies to pick up with your personal train on your neighbors' towns (including Greg's town), go to their towns manually. Sometimes you will find townies available to be picked up, but the game does not show them for a reason I do not know. You can still visit your different neighbors towns without getting back to your town so you can still pick up 10 townies with your personal train from different towns .
2. From the old forum: If you leave the item/product that Tom has brought in the box before Tom's hiring period expires, it will stay in the box. If you collect it after Tom's hiring period expires, you can hire Tom with a discount (haven't tried it for a while so not sure if it is still working after the update).

IIRC, this issue happens when there has been a maintenance and players have not either been to their town or logged in to the game after the maintenance.
