I think this player has been inactive for several weeks, but I am not sure. None of the production machines have been running when I check their farm, but the sanctuary animals are still moving around. Why aren't the animals asleep?

If you stop feeding the sanctuary animals, they stay awake forever. Not quite happy tho🙃

Years ago I kept a second farm to help out with my main farm. I then took about four years off from the game. Coming back, I still had that second farm on my followers list. All the pets there are fed and awake and roaming around happy. It looks like the farm Could be active because of the pets. So I don't think the pets are a good way to tell. I also had a boat there AND it says I'm in the derby. 😋 I thought for a while that if they're in the derby then they must be active, but not so! I haven't been on that second farm for a long, long time! I remember someone saying on the old forum that your farm is a screenshot of the last time you were on it. If you left it a mess and machines not running and had just planted stuff, that's how it will look to others. If when you left you had all the machines running and 3 truck orders trashed off the board, the machines will stay running and those 3 slots on the truck board will stay blank. Nothing will have grown and pets are the same as they were when you last left them. Apparently even years and years later! It would be very nice if SC came out with a way we could tell for sure if someone is inactive.
P.S. I still have strawberries growing there too. They haven't sprouted at all. 😆

If anyone has any tips as to how we might be able to tell if a player is inactive, please share! 😊😊

If anyone has any tips as to how we might be able to tell if a player is inactive, please share! 😊😊 Maybe keep an eye on boats to see if they are coming and going? You can see what’s asked for on the boat, I imagine it wouldn’t change if they’re inactive. Or if the planted crops don’t change for a week I’d guess they are inactive.

lizdiz what a great idea about the boat! I'm going to do a test with that second farm of mine and watch what the boat crates want-- whether or not they change. I can report back here in a few days about it! That should be enough time to tell if they're changing or aren't changing, right? Thank you lizdiz!

I'd appreciate it if someone else could confirm the thoughts from ClassyCats. As for me I agree with this. I also think that the last move a farmer has done will be what we are about to see if we are able to visit the farm later. Is this right, or are their other thoughts, experiences? THX for input!

I agree what the player has last done will be what you see. If animals were awake and machines running, they will still be and there will be no change to crops based on what they did last. I have a lot of inactive followers but what's strange to me is a couple of them still have boats docked. I assumed the boat timer would keep going until the boat leaves and no new boat would come until they log in again, but their boats seem "stuck" with same crates and the timer doesn't change. So I'd say the boat thing is a dead give-away if it's stuck like that. I also try to see if anything's changed in their RSS if anything was for sale. Hope this helps.

the boat may not be a good check point, I for example do not like to fill boats so mine will stay the designated hours and then leave on its own without me filling the crates.

Okay so I finally remembered to go look at my boat on that other farm. I stayed there for a minute or two and the clock was indeed counting down. So, I'm not sure that the boat would work either. If it's counting down, it still must come and go whether anyone has been there or not. But I took notes of what the crates were so after 15 hours (probably about 12 or 13 now) we'll see if they're different!

I had the same experience like ClassyCats with my baby farms which I sometimes neglect for months. Still crops are growing, animals are happy. I think the only way to tell for sure is the farm level and the Roadside Shop. And maybe boadleader boards. I really find it funny when you visit a farm and animals start eating and running wild. But that’s another story.

Hay Day is a non-lethal game, no animals or crops die and one loses nothing by not visiting the farm. Is it just because you are curious how a farm behaves or are you concerned about an inactive farmer parking their farm in your hood?

At a time when I thought the number of my followers was too much to scroll through, I would write down the farm levels and check back about every three months to see if the level changed. Levelling up is so much faster now, so one could check back monthly.
If it is just one farm, note the farm and town levels and forget about it for a while

Yep the boat is not a way to tell. Every time I go to check there it resets back to 15 hours! 😉 Edit to Add: Or maybe that would be a way to tell! Duh. If in fact the person has a boat there, though. The crates do not change and the timer is always 15 hours and how many ever minutes!

The way I check is wheel of fortune truck. If it's on the farm for 3 weeks then most likely inactive, at that point I remove them. I might wait a month. If it's an active farm the truck is not always there. I have keep ex hood members that haven't played in months on friends list but not in neighborhood, the always have a wheel of misfortune park on farm.

Thanks for all of the tips and recommendations. As a leader I look for inactive farms and remove them after awhile so the NH remains active. I just wish there was a more definitive way to know if a farm was truly active or not. Maybe the leader and co-leaders should be able to see a "last time logged in" metric?
